At a Google press event held Tuesday afternoon at the company's Mountain View, Calif. headquarters, Google vice president Mario Queiroz billed the new Nexus One as a "superphone" and an "exemplar of what's possible" on mobile phones running Android. He didn't precisely define the term superphone, other than to suggest it has greater capabilities than today's existing smartphones.

• How fast is Google's Nexus One?

In a nutshell: pretty darn fast. The Nexus One runs on a 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Motorola Droid, for comparison, has a 550-MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor; the iPhone 3GS runs on a 600-MHz chip. The Nexus One also has twice the RAM of the Droid or the iPhone, with 512 MB on-board.

• What about multitouch? Any of that goodness?

Nope -- and Google was cryptically quiet about why. The phone, like the Motorola Droid, does support multitouch as far as hardware. But the software doesn't natively allow for it.

SIM. Your device has a T-Mobile SIM that will be active until March 13, 2010. As of March 13, you will need to contact T-Mobile if you’d like to extend the SIM card’s activation period.

구글, 휴대폰을 구매하는 새로운 모델 제시

- ‘넥서스원’ 출시로 안드로이드 생태계 혁신에 기여

마운틴 뷰 (2010년 1월 5일) – 구글이 웹스토어(www.google.com/phone)를 열고 안드로이드탑재폰을 구매하는 새로운 채널을 발표했다. 또한 새롭게 오픈한 웹스토어를 통해 판매할 첫번째 폰인 ‘넥서스원(Nexus One)’을 공개했다. 넥서스원은 최신 HTC 하드웨어와 새로운 안드로이드 소프트웨어를 결합한 휴대폰이다.

구글은 새로운 채널을 통해 사용자들이 안드로이드 탑재폰을 보다 편리하게 만나볼 수 있도록 하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 이에 따라 웹스토어에서 제공하는 사용자 경험도 단순함(simplicity)에 초점을 두고 있다.

구글 웹스토어에서는 넥서스원을 별도의 서비스 없이 구매하거나(종류에 관계없이 모든 GSM 네트워크 SIM 카드 삽입 가능) 구글 제휴 통신사 중 원하는 서비스를 선택해 구매할 수 있다. 향후 웹스토어에 더 많은 종류의 휴대폰이 추가될 예정으로, 소비자들은 자신이 선택하는 휴대폰 기기에 가장 적합한 통화 요금제를 결합해 사용할 수 있다. 각 통신사 요금제는 웹스토어 사이트에 소개될 예정이다.

MOUNTAIN VIEW (January 5, 2010) - Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today unveiled a new way for consumers to purchase an Android mobile phone, a web store hosted by Google. The company is also launching the first phone offered through this new model, called the Nexus One, which combines the latest in hardware from HTC Corporation with the newest Android software.

The goal of Google's new consumer channel is to provide an efficient way to connect Google's online users with selected Android phones. The online experience of the web store has been designed with a focus on simplicity.

Through the web store found at www.google.com/phone, consumers can buy the Nexus One without service (meaning any GSM network SIM card can be inserted into the device), or purchase the phone with service from one of Google's operator partners. As new phones come to market through this channel, consumers will benefit from the ability to match a phone of their choice with the service plan that best meets their needs. Operator prices and plan details will be featured on the site.

Nexus One is initially available from the Google web store in the US without service for $529 or starting at $179 with a two-year contract from T-Mobile USA.
